Portrait
Alessandra
The subject matter is my precious Alessandra from Miami, Florida. I painted her because I liked the picture I took of her and thought it would be fun to paint. There is line present, the stray ends of her hair are thin lines. Value is also present, there are different values in her face, some spots have more crimson while some have sienna. There is emphasis on Alessandra, she is the center of the painting. There is also movement through her hair.

Still Life
California
The subject matter is objects that relate to the ocean: the Cali license plate, sand dollars, seashells, a bottle of sand, and a little turtle. I painted this because I thought these objects had a nice theme together and it would be fun to paint, especially the license plate. I have form in the license plate, I tried to make the blue numbers pop with the shadow in the back. There is value in the biggest seashell, there are light and dark browns in it. There is unity because all the objects relate to each other, they are all connected to the beach. There is also proportion, the small seashells aren't bigger than the license plate, all the objects are the right size.

Watercolor Final Project
Brothers
The subject matter is my brother Ryan and his friend Alex walking on the shores of Cocoa Beach. I painted this because I thought it would make an okay watercolor painting and it would also be good to do the reflection, brothers and a concept that reminds me of better days. Texture shows up in the little trees and in the puffiness of the clouds. There is also form in the waves coming on the shores. There is movement in the folds of the clothes and repetition of Ryan and Alex through the reflection.

Sunsets and Flowers
Maine Sunset
The subject matter is a sunset over water in Maine. I painted this because I loved the vibrance of the colors and it looks like you could be discovering the water in between the trees. On the first layer of colors, I used dry brush in the sky, clouds, and water. I also used flat wash, lifting wet, and wet on wet in the water for the second layer. For the sky and water, I used tissue paper but I painted over that. I used the straw a little bit for the silhouette but then I switched to the screwdriver brush technique for the third layer. Two elements I used were color (in the water and sky especially) and form (in the trees, they looks like leaves). Two principles I used were emphasis (the setting sun because the color in that area is lighter than the surrounding) and pattern (the strokes in the sky and water are similar). I did not take this picture.

Flowers Aren't My Forte
The subject matter is a picture of a white and two yellow roses. I painted this because yellow and white roses are my favorite. I used the grade wash for the background and wet on wet for the yellow roses and background, which was my first layer. I used rubber cement to cover up the white rose and the bottom of the vase. I used wet on wet and dry brush for the leaves, vase, and roses, the second layer. For the fuzzy white grass things I used the stabbing technique. I used the wrist flick on the brown leaves but then I went back and cleaned them up because it looked awful. The fuzzy white grass and brown leaves would be the third layer. Two elements I used were size (since the roses are closer to the viewer's face they are bigger) and texture (the white fuzzies are softer/thicker than anything else). Two elements I used were emphasis (the white rose) and contrast (the white and yellow roses are different).
